| Paper-canister packaged sacrificial anodes | 1059 |
Paper-canister packaged magnesium anodes are factory-preassembled cathodic protection products designed for buried infrastructure. They consist of a magnesium or zinc alloy anode core encased in a conductive backfill (composed of gypsum, bentonite, and sodium sulfate) and sealed within a paper canister, complete with an insulated lead cable. Leveraging the electrochemical principle that magnesium/zinc is more "active" (negatively charged) than steel, these anodes function by corroding preferentially in the soil environment. This "sacrifice" releases protective current that polarizes the surface of metal structures-such as pipelines and storage tanks-into a cathodic state, thereby halting corrosion.
These anodes are widely deployed in cathodic protection systems for cross-country oil and gas pipelines, municipal underground networks, storage tank foundations, and chemical plant facilities.
